Ruapuna - 30th of June 2009. |
The track started out quite wet with some overnight showers hitting the circuit. After the warm up round which was very slippery it was a matter of sitting on the racing line to try and get rid of some of the water.
Heat one we jumped out to the front and stayed there but were having issues with the fuel pressure and the kart started to bog really badly towards the last 2 laps and handed the lead over to Grant Lucas who took race one.
Race two we had the fuel sorted out and once again jumped out to the front and led the race to be pipped on the line after dropping several gears around the track.
Heat 3 we made some changes to the gear shifter and there was no stopping the kart now winning with good margin.
Heat 4 ,5 and 6 was more of the same. Overall having a good day out winning 4 from 6 races and gaining some valuable track info in cold damp conditions. |

2009 NZ SuperKart Champs, held in January, this was my first competitive race in the new kart. I had completed about 30 hours of track practice prior to the nationals. Overall I finished in 5th place which was very pleasing considering my lack of knowledge and experience in the new PVP Kart.
There were approximately 10 competitors. I went from strength to strength as the day progressed managing to finish 2nd in the last points race.
By the time the Grand prix took place with 19 competitors, I was sitting in 2nd position for this race, until an unfortunate accident ended the days racing for all.
Scheduled Events:
Club events in conjunction with motorcycle Canterbury at Ruapuna Raceway & Levels Raceway. These will be held in May, August, September and October 2009.
South Island Championship November 2009.
South Island Grand Prix November 2009.
NZ Champs 2010 January.
Potentially there are another 3 club competitions before January 2010.
We also want to compete in North Island Competitions at Mansfield and Taupo this year and next.
In 2010 we are also looking at competing in the Australian SuperKart series which are held in 2 of the largest and well known tracks in Australasia being Phillip Island and Eastern Creek.
